About Talley

Hey everyone! My name is Talley, I am a 25 year old from western North Carolina. While I was growing up, my family moved a few times within the Midwest and Southeastern United States with my younger sister, parents, and many pets. I am a big fan of travel, nature, furry animals, podcasts, and constantly being around other humans. I have a dog named Lola. She is living with her "grandparents" while I am abroad.

I have been an Episcopalian all my life, growing up going to summer camp, Happening, and other youth events. When I was 9 years old, my dad was called to the priesthood. Having officially been the child of a priest for 10 years now, I think it might start seeming real soon.

In May 2017, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies with a concentration in Peace, Conflict, and Human Rights, with minors in Mandarin and German. Since graduation, I have been on a journey trying to find my way. I knew I wanted to do something of service to others.  And, starting in middle school, I felt God calling me to serve in His church.  Although, I am still not 100% sure what all that entails, I knew it was time to heed the call.

Enter the YASC application. YASC is short for Young Adult Service Corps.

“The Young Adult Service Corps is a ministry for Episcopalians ages 21-30 who are interested in exploring their faith in new ways by living and serving in communities around the world.” As soon as I discovered this program, I felt that it was a perfect fit for my interests. In February 2019, I was invited to a discernment retreat where I determined that yes, this is where I need to be.

I arrived in the Philippines in August 2019. This blog is a space for me to stay in contact with my community back home as well as embrace a new community by sharing my experiences.  Please pray for me as I begin this journey and check back here for updates.
